Money in Professional Sports

What are your thoughts on the staggering amounts of money involved with professional sports?  Do you feel these athletes deserve the incredible amounts of money they get for the sport they participate in?  Arguments sure come from both ends of the spectrum on this never-ending debate.  What side do you take when it comes to money in sports?

“These athletes do not deserve all this money they get just for playing a sport.”  This is a common remark from those opposed to the million-dollar salaries commonly associated with pro sports. Oftentimes, the backups who never see the game make more money than 98% of the country, and a lot of people do not feel this is justified. “How is the backup quarterback to Peyton Manning going to make more money in one week to ride the bench than I make in my entire life? He doesn’t even play.”  It’s definitely an argument that people who do not have large sums of money or have little interest in sports commonly like to express. After all, figure out Alex Rodriguez’s salary down to the day?  He makes a cool $69k a day, 365 days a year. Can you imagine?  Every single day another 70 grand goes into your bank account?  Pretty incredible if you ask me. Especially when a player might be 19 years old and can’t even legally drink yet. Let’s keep in mind that these athletes are also very popular and make a lot of money from endorsement deals and other lucrative options of being a pro ballplayer.

Professional athletes deserve every last dollar they get.  They are the ones that have such incredible skills that thousands of people attend the games to watch them and millions of people around the world tune in to watch them compete.  They possess talents that very few people in the universe have and they put them on display for the whole world to see.  They risk their health for the rest of their life to play sports.  People who take this side often are avid sports fans or maybe aren’t experiencing money issues within their own world. One thing is for sure, these athletes make some serious cash, but do they know how to manage such incredible amounts of money.  Cash that can last you an entire lifetime if you are smart with your money.  This is something that many of these players struggle with mightily.

Money in Professional Sports

It can be hard to say what makes a person support the salaries professional athletes make or despise them.  One thing is for sure, the money in professional sports is enough to make your head spin. Very few people will ever experience what professional athletes get to experience in terms of monetary value and being in the spotlight they find themselves in. I, personally, tend to say they deserve the money.  Props to them for taking natural abilities they were born with and maximizing them to the fullest extent. They certainly didn’t get to that level of competition by accident and it took them some serious hard work.  Sports are extremely competitive in terms of the upper echelon leagues such as the NFLNBANHL, and MLB.  Even tennis, golf, soccer, MMA, and a host of others offer very few spots to be on top.
